Zoning board approves tower for emergency services

NJ TRENTON — Trenton approves 150-foot cell tower for emergency services. The Zoning Board voted 7-0 to allow Rise Up Towers, LLC to construct a monopole at Trenton Central High School to restore coverage for FirstNet, Verizon, and T-Mobile after demolition of the current host building eliminates existing service. Radio frequency expert Andrew Peterson testified that electromagnetic emissions would be 400 times below federal maximums and essential for emergency-services communications and 911 caller location capability.
The Board of Education will receive $30,000 to $40,000 annually with 2 percent yearly escalation. Board member Tennille McKinney voted in favor while noting insufficient research into alternate locations.
